September 8, 1929 ~ September 11, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old
Passed peacefully with her family by her side on September 11, 2017 at age 88. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, David; four children, Judy (Vincent) Cama, Carol (Gerard) Whitbourne, Dave, John (Kylie); nine grandchildren, Russ, Renee, Adam (Sybil), Allie, Kaelee, Miranda, Libby, Natalie, Quinn and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie; sister, Shirley Closson; brother-in-law, Richard (Laurie) Clossen; seven nieces and nephews and their families. She leaves behind a shining example of love, caring, kindness and acceptance. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Joan went back to school in the midst of raising four children to become a LPN and worked as a nurse for 10 years. In her retirement she was even busier. She was an active member of the Genesee Valley chapter of The Embroiderer's Guild of America and her Wednesday morning stitching group. She belonged to the Webster Garden Club, a book club and was an active member of Asbury First United Methodist Church for 50 plus years where she developed lifelong friendships through their beloved Partnership Class, volunteering in the church office, the Dining and Caring Center and Roudebush Circle.

Thank you to the loving, compassionate caregivers of Creekstone Assisted Living in Fairport who made her last months feel like she was home.

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, Sept. 17th, 3 PM at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Ave., with a reception following from 4-5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Rochester Presbyterian Home, 256 Thurston Rd., Rochester, NY 14619 or visit rph.org.
