Thomas Carr Obituary

On June 9, 2024, the world lost a kind and funny husband, dad, brother and uncle in Thomas Francis Carr, 78, of Webster.

Tom was born in Rochester on June 30, 1945, to the late Thomas Bernard and Elizabeth “Betty” (McHugh) Carr, the second of four sons. He grew up on Merwin Avenue and graduated from East H.S. in 1963. Two years later, he married Marcia DeMallie. They moved to Webster and the family was complete with the arrivals of son Thomas William and daughter Elizabeth Renee.

Tom worked for many years at Eastman Kodak, working in IT. He finished his career at IBM, retiring in 2006. He somehow found time while working to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration and master’s degree in applied statistics from RIT.

Tom was an avid athlete who loved playing basketball and running, in particular. He competed in road races across Rochester and the state, often with son Tom. He was a repeat participant at the Empire State Games in track and field, where his best result was a gold medal in the masters pentathlon.

Tom will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, integrity and caring for those around him.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dan, he’s survived by Marcia, his wife of 58 years; son Thomas (Lisa) of Dallas and daughter Elizabeth of Webster; brothers Jerry (Mary Lou) Carr of Buffalo and Rob (Judy) Carr of Bellevue, Wash.; sisters-in-law Carolyn LePage of Webster and Christine Carr of Myrtle Beach; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his caregiver, Lisa Hauser and her family.

A gathering for remembrance will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a nonprofit hospice organization in your area, or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
