Robert A. Ross

Robert A. Ross died peacefully at 94 years-old on September 23, 2018. He was born on April 11, 1924 in Cherry Valley, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1949. He was on a minesweeper off the coast of Normandy during D-Day and in the Seabees (Construction Battalions) after the war in Trinidad. At the conclusion of his military service, he returned to the U.S. and relocated in Rochester. He was the first of his family to go to college and he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology through the GI Bill. Robert married Shirley Corrigan on August 17, 1953. They remained married until her passing on March 26, 1974. His career as an award-winning commercial artist in advertising began in 1957 at Rumrill-Hoyt. He remained there until he retired in 1984. He spent his later years drawing, painting and writing poetry; chasing bluegrass festivals; and enjoying the company of his three children and their families. 

He is survived by his daughter, Anne Ross, her spouse, Deanna Semple, and their two children, Daniel and Nicholas; his daughter, Janice Ross and her partner, Colleen Tiffany; and his son, Christopher Ross, his spouse, Warren Binford, and their two children, Eddy and Frances. In accordance with his wishes, a private remembrance will be held by members of his immediate family. “Bobbo,” as he was affectionately known to many, “traveled life’s road with Suess, Barnum, and Frost discovering each day new, is never to be lost, wondering if wandering is wondering’s way, of discovering again a new wondering day.”
