Columbus, Robert R.

Scottsville: Saturday September 6, 2014 @ age 84. Predeceased by his son, Blake. Survived by his fond wife, Alison; children, Megan (Ofer Seri Levy) and Adam (partner Gudrun Vander Avoird); stepchildren, Anna Heck and Alec Huff (Stacey); grandchildren, Amanda, Ryan, Sophie and Josh; step grand children, Liam, Ainsley, Taylor, Braden and Bryce.

An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Bob developed a lifelong love of reading while in the service. This led to a Doctorate in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania and a professorship at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Upon moving to Rochester, he worked as a management consultant at Hebing Associates and Wetterings & Agnew and founded R. R. Columbus Executive Search. He embraced both academia and business with enthusiasm.

He cherished his home and village and had a particular fondness for the Scottsville Library. As Board President he championed its renovation and the reclamation of its original stage.

Bob was an inspired and inspiring teacher and friend. A lover of life and lives, he was prized for his warmth, his intellect, his lively and eloquent conversation and his informed and critical appreciation of literature.

His family would like to thank his primary care physician, Christopher D'Angelo, and the specialists and nurses at Strong Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care. They also wish to acknowledge his longstanding colleague and friend, Jim Crenner, whose steadfast friendship so enriched his life, and the good friends and neighbors who aided and entertained him. He is, and will be, acutely missed by his family and all who appreciated and loved him.

Per his wishes no formal service will be held. A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled later. Donations in his memory may be made to the Scottsville Library or a charity of your choosing. .Online Condolences welcomed at:
