Died on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at age 92 with her family by her side. She was born on February 24, 1927 in Manhattan, NY to Samuel Fowle Telfair, a professor at Fordham University and Mary Constance Warren, and grew up in Scarsdale, NY. Mildred briefly attended St. Mary’s College in Raleigh, NC and later graduated from Alfred University in NYS with a B.S. in Nursing.
Mildred enjoyed living in Rochester’s historic 19th Ward. She touched many lives with her generosity as an accomplished ICU nurse and mentor at Strong Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1992. Mildred enjoyed the arts (Little Theatre and Memorial Art Gallery were favorites), interior design, classical music, knitting, reading, and gardening. She bestowed the love of the Adirondacks to her children and spent many summer vacations at Lake George.
Mildred will be greatly missed by her children, John, Mary, and Sarah; her grandson, Sam; her sister, Connie O’Toole; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Barbra.
A service to celebrate her life will be held later in the year for her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to honor her memory to WXXI, 280 State St., Box 30021, Rochester 14603-3021 (or through the following link: shorturl.at/yLN25).
