Lester C. Gisiger

November 28, 2017 ~ July 15, 2014 (age 3) 3 Years Old
Gisiger, Lester C.

Rochester: Lester Charles Gisiger passed away peacefully at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD on July 15, 2014. He was born on September 30, 1919 to Joseph and Freida Gisiger in Rochester, NY. He was a part of the greatest generation. As an employee at Gleason Works during World War II, he made the conscious decision to suspend his work release and enter into active duty in the United States Navy. He served as Second Class Machinist on PT Boat 491, squadron 33 in the Pacific Theater. At the end of the war, he returned to Gleason Works and the greater Rochester area, where he married Dorothy Rita Ferrell on September 28, 1946. Their marriage was blessed with the addition of their beloved son, Bruce Edward.

Les was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed travelling as much as he enjoyed a good martini. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. At the age of 94, he proved that one is never too old to enjoy a new adventure. With the help of his good friend, John, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD, to be closer to his granddaughter, Megan, and his great-grandson, Chandler. Upon his arrival, he was surprised to learn that he would meet another great-grandchild, baby Thatcher, in April of 2014.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Freida, his wife, Dorothy, his sister, Marguerite "Peggy" Gisiger, and his son, Bruce. He is survived by his granddaughter, Mrs. Megan (Dr. Mitchell) Harris, great-grandsons, Chandler and Thatcher (Sioux Falls, SD), his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carole Gisiger (Litchfield, CT), step-granddaughter, Mrs. Kristyne (Michael) LaBrie and her children, Samuel and Madison (Litchfield, CT), and step-grandson, John (Cindy) Dudac and his children, Carley and Gavin (Southington, CT).

Visitation with family present will take place MONDAY July 21 from 4 - 7 PM at Crawford Funeral Home (495 N. Winton Rd., between Browncroft & Humboldt). A graveside funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 22 at Holy Angels Cemetery in Scottsville, NY.
