Jeanne M. Bell

December 15, 1945 - July 3, 2021. Jeanne passed on peacefully at age 75 with her devoted husband of 54 years at her side after several months of treatment for leukemia. The daughter of loving parents, William and Charlotte (Stuck) Lipsett, and older sister to two wonderful brothers, Robert (Nina) and William (Kathy), she spent her childhood in Harrisburg, PA, frequently visiting family in Berlin and Pottsville. She graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School in 1963 and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. A labor and delivery nurse, she began her career at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Edward Bell, and then left nursing to raise their two daughters, Jeanine (Tom) Breen and Rebecca (Ed) Thomas. After living in Ann Arbor, MI for six years, she and Ed moved the family to Rochester, NY. In 1978, she returned to nursing, in labor and delivery at St. Mary’s Hospital and then ambulatory surgery at Westfall Surgery Center, retiring in 2005. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren, Kieran, Brady and Marlee, and being fun Aunt Jeanne to many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne’s life centered around faith, family and friends. She was a loving daughter-in-law to Harris and Josephine Bell and sister-in-law to Patricia, Timothy and Richard. She looked forward to family reunions and annual family vacations in Suttons Bay, MI. A long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, she was an active parish volunteer and loved singing in the choir. She formed many lasting friendships through her activities with the Mercy Spirituality Center, teaching exercise classes for the Arthritis Foundation, and active participation in the Faith and Hope group meetings at St. Anne Church. Her wit, sense of humor and generosity made her a great companion and support to many and she had a special gift for helping those with long-term needs.

Friends may call Thursday, July 8, 4-7 PM at Crawford Funeral Home (495 N. Winton Rd.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 9, 10 AM, at Peace of Christ Parish, St. John the Evangelist Church, 553 Humboldt St. A Reception will be held immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jeanne’s memory by donating blood or contributing to your local blood bank.
