OFFICIAL OBITUARY FOR

James Kenneth Stinehour

1948 - 2021

Rochester

OBITUARY Print

Surrounded by family, Jim passed away Thursday, March 11 at the age of 73.

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Jim was the youngest of three siblings. A natural inclination toward mathematics led to an engineering education, with Jim obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from RPI in Troy, NY. Between degrees, a posting with the Army Corps of Engineers brought him to the unfamiliar southern surroundings of Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he met his wife of 49 years, Judy.

After a honeymoon spent in a U-Haul truck and the conclusion of his graduate studies, Jim would call Rochester, NY home for more than 45 years. A span enjoyed across a 25+ year engineering career, the raising of three boys, and a multitude of personal endeavors, including a turn at just about every restaurant serving lunch on the eastside of the city.

An active member of Asbury First UMC, Jim is warmly remembered as an usher, greeter, and a friend to the Asbury community.

Jim believed travel, laughter, and family were the proper companions of a lived life and indulged in each at every opportunity. He is survived by his wife; mother; sister; three sons; and four granddaughters.

A Memorial is being planned for when gatherings are again possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund of Asbury First UMC, 1050 East Ave., Rochester 14607.

Dear Judy and family,
It is with sadness in my heart with the passing of a great man. Jim welcomed me the moment I walked into Asbury First. He was noted for his hugs and he gave them out to everyone. Jim put a smile on everyone's face that he encountered in work and worship. He will be greatly missed by me. condolences and blessings to his whole family.

Heart

I will always remember Jim.  He was so kind to me at church - always a smile, sometimes a hug when I needed one.  If my son came to church he would always guide me to where he was sitting.  Church will not be the same without Jim.  Judy, I am so sorry for your loss.
