Surrounded by family, Jim passed away Thursday, March 11 at the age of 73.
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Jim was the youngest of three siblings. A natural inclination toward mathematics led to an engineering education, with Jim obtaining undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering from RPI in Troy, NY. Between degrees, a posting with the Army Corps of Engineers brought him to the unfamiliar southern surroundings of Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he met his wife of 49 years, Judy.
After a honeymoon spent in a U-Haul truck and the conclusion of his graduate studies, Jim would call Rochester, NY home for more than 45 years. A span enjoyed across a 25+ year engineering career, the raising of three boys, and a multitude of personal endeavors, including a turn at just about every restaurant serving lunch on the eastside of the city.
An active member of Asbury First UMC, Jim is warmly remembered as an usher, greeter, and a friend to the Asbury community.
Jim believed travel, laughter, and family were the proper companions of a lived life and indulged in each at every opportunity. He is survived by his wife; mother; sister; three sons; and four granddaughters.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 25, 1PM, at Asbury First UMC, 1050 East Ave., Rochester 14607. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim Stinehour Memorial Fund at Asbury UMC.
