Harold "Hack" Marchant, a beloved figure in Penfield, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on May 3, 1938, Hack lived a rich and fulfilling life defined by dedication to his craft, service to his community, and unwavering love for his family.
Following his service in the US Navy, Hack embarked on a career spanning 38 years as a skilled blacksmith. His craftsmanship was renowned throughout the region, earning him admiration and respect from peers and the greater equestrian family.
After retiring, Hack moved on to his second career for 19 years as a Bus Driver for Penfield Schools, where he is fondly remembered by peers and students alike.
Hack was predeceased by his wife, Nancy, but leaves behind a legacy cherished by his children: Carol (Larry) Knickerbocker and Tom (Heidi) Freeman. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and great-grandfather to 10 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
Beyond his professional achievements and familial bonds, Hack was a pillar of his community. His friendships spanned generations and spheres of life, a testament to his genuine kindness and welcoming spirit.
One of Hack's proudest achievements was the farm stand he co-founded with his grandson, Whitney, in 2001. Together, they cultivated a thriving business that became a local favorite, reflecting Hack's entrepreneurial spirit.
Hack will be fondly remembered for his hearty laughter, warm, broad smile, steadfast loyalty, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by family, friends, and the community he touched with his warmth and generosity.
A memorial service celebrating Hack's life will be held at Cherry Ridge Chapel at St. Ann's on July 2, 2024, at 11 AM. Interment will be held privately.
