With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Emmelyn Susanne Logan-Baldwin, whose life was a testament to duty, courage, and unfaltering love. Emmy departed this earth on May 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured.
Born on 9 March 1940 in Woodstock, Virginia, Emmy was a model of energy and grit. She had a stellar academic career at Woodstock, Duke University and the University of Virginia Law School. After moving to Rochester NY, Emmy became the first Executive Director of the Genesee Valley NYCLU. A member of the Rochester Bar Association for more than 50 years, Emmy worked with a local law firm before she “hung her shingle” in sole practice.
Emmy pursued Plaintiffs’ rights with a passion for using the Law to mitigate social and individual wrongs. Emmy argued Warth v. Seldin before the US Supreme court. She defended women’s right to belong to business and community organizations, notably the Rochester Jaycees. She held a fierce love for nature and animal rights.
Emmy is survived by Roy, husband of more than 55 years; daughter, Emily; granddaughter, Olivia; grandson, Kieran; brother, Bill and sister, Linda.
A celebration to honor Emmy's extraordinary life will be held on May 23 between the hours of 2-5 PM at Crawford Funeral Home 495 N Winton Rd, Rochester NY. Friends, family, and all whose lives she touched are invited to come celebrate her enduring spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to human and animal rights organizations, notably the Susan B. Anthony House, the NYCLU, or Lollypop Farm.
Emmy will be remembered not only for the life she lived but for the lives she touched. Rest in peace, beloved Emmy.
