Penfield: Blakley, Dorothy M. Passed away October 8, 2014, after a difficult but courageous six-month struggle with cancer. Dorothy was born December 10, 1924, in Geneva, NY, the second daughter of William H. Mathews and Zella Wooden Mathews. Predeceased by her husband, George, who had a long career in the U.S. Navy, and brother Kenneth and sister Marion. She is survived by her brother, William, and nieces: Mary Moffett, Jane Zwerner, Sandra Cohen, Carol Beier and nephew, William J. Mathews; & nine great nieces & nephews.

After graduating from Geneva High School, she joined the Shuron Optical Company as a data processor and remained with them for 45 years. She managed the department when record keeping and reporting turned from typed reports to the new IBM punched cards system. She took many hours of training on data processing at the IBM office in Rochester. She was admired by her colleagues for her professionalism. She also got the cakes for birthday parties and enlivened company events at Belhurst. Her home in
Geneva was often designated as the after- hours place to gather.
She was beloved by her friends, and very pleased during her fight with cancer by almost daily visits from her constant companion, William Pollock, Sr., William and Elaine Pollock Jr., Ray and Carolyn Helfrich, and Jerry and Jackie Fedele. All of whom provided comfort and care throughout her six month ordeal.
Her funeral service is Tuesday, October 14, 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1957 Five Mile Line Road, Penfield; burial to follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford. In Memoriam contributions should be sent to Webster Comfort Care, (700 Holt Road, Webster, NY 14580).
