Rochester, NY: Charles R. "Chuck" Stappenbeck, Sr., 64, passed away on September 28, 2014 after a brief illness. Chuck is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Elizabeth (née Griffith); sons Charles, Jr. (Carla) of Philadelphia and Griffith (Amy) of Rochester; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marie Stappenbeck; his brother and sister-in-law, William and Jean, and brother Ronald. Born in Rochester, Chuck graduated from Bloomfield Central School before earning his bachelor's degree from Cornell University. He would later embark on a 35 year career in the optics industry.

Over the years, Chuck served his community on various boards and commissions, bringing integrity and fairness to each endeavor. Most importantly, he was committed to his family and to helping others. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, spoiling his grandchildren, and being outdoors.

Calling hours will be held from 3-5 & 7-9 PM on Friday, October 3rd at the Crawford Funeral Home (495 N. Winton Rd.).. His funeral Mass will be celebrated the following morning at 10 am at St. Bridget's Church in Bloomfield, NY. Interment will occur immediately after Mass at the church cemetery.
