Caroline Jane (Scully) Roney, 95, of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully and went to be home with the Lord on October 24, 2025.
Born and raised in Manhattan, Caroline met her husband Bob at a soda shop where he worked as a soda jerk while attending Art School. They married in New York City and shortly afterward moved to Bob’s hometown of Rochester. They raised a family of four children there, with brief stops in Detroit and Kansas City, ultimately moving back to Rochester for good in 1966. A woman of deep Catholic faith, Caroline regularly attended Sunday Mass, in recent years engaged in Mass via her iPad, and enjoyed her Bible study group. Caroline was proud of her Irish roots, coming from a deep connection to a resilient and spirited people who are fiercely loyal to family and friends. Caroline was a life-long fan of the New York Yankees and baseball in general, and her favorite player was Johnny “Big Cat” Mize who played out his career with the Yankees. Caroline loved it when one of her children or grandchildren were at a ballgame and the PA played the song “Sweet Caroline," and they sent a video of it to her. A voracious reader, for the last decade she read e-books on her iPad that she checked out from the Valencia, California public library. As you can tell, Caroline may have been the tech-savviest nonagenarian in the country, also texting regularly with her family and friends. Caroline loved all kinds of puzzles, especially crossword puzzles (that she sometimes completed all in her head!). Caroline was an avid volunteer, volunteering at her church and at her children’s school libraries (even after they had graduated).
Caroline was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert (Bob); mother, Julia (Bruss) Scully; father, Edward Scully; sister, Marion (Scully) Cooney; sister, Dorothy Scully; and her loyal canine protector, Brewce. Caroline will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her son, Carl; daughter, Susan Perlow and son-in-law, Steven Perlow; son, Curt and daughter-in-law, Diane (Schainbaum); son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Martha Welshofer; grandsons, Eric Perlow, Jonathan Perlow, and Aaron Roney; granddaughter, Julia Roney and her partner Brandon Becker; granddaughter, Nicole Roney and her partner Taylor Hickman; great-grandsons, Judah and Ryder; and great-granddaughter, Sage. Caroline’s grandchildren, their partners, and her great-grandchildren were especially precious to her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John of Rochester (8 Wickford Way, Fairport, NY) November 10, 2025 at 11 am. You are invited to wear something in Caroline’s favorite color, yellow, in her memory, or wear one of the yellow flowers provided. The family will be present to receive friends at 10 am prior to Mass. Burial to immediately follow at White Heaven Memorial Park. All are invited to a luncheon at St John’s immediately after the burial.
Caroline will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering kindness, love of all children, and the quiet strength with which she touched the lives of so many.
The family appreciates the professional and loving care she received from Jennie, Alicia, and Angela at the Monroe Community Hospital Palliative Care & Hospice Faith 4 Center; from Erin and Will with UR Medicine Hospice; and from Jeff at the Adult Palliative Care at Strong Memorial Hospital.
