Predeceased by her parents, Everett Leroy "Roy" and Ruth (Gilmore) Hand and brother-in-law, Clark F. Miller. Survived by sister, Elizabeth "Betty" H. Miller; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald G. and Kathryn J. (Minnema) Hand; devoted niece and longtime caregiver, Karon (Walter) Simoni; special nephew, Edward (Kathleen); nephews, Charles (Gail) from FL, Peter, David (Maureen), and George (Cindy) Hand; great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins in Syracuse NY and California.
Shirley Jean was a lifelong member of Brighton Reformed Church and then Trinity Reformed Church, after their merger. Shirley Jean survived breast cancer twice. She loved Shirley Temple, Winnie the Pooh, her cats, her Ellison Park Heights neighbors, her fellow Crafts for a Cause knitters, and friends from church, especially Liz Dalton and Marilyn DeVisser. She attended Indian Landing School, Brighton High '47, Rochester Business Institute '49, and attained her bachelors degree from Hope College in Holland, Michigan in 1955.
Special thanks to all the caregivers at Lifetime Care and Strong's Palliative Care Unit 4-1200. Heartfelt thanks to Walt's sister and special friend to Shirley Jean, Oksana Robinson, for all her visits, compassion, prayers, manicures and kind words during her last weeks.
At Shirley Jean's request, there will be no calling hours, Her Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14, 2019, 11 AM, at Trinity Reformed Church, 909 N. Landing Rd., Rochester, NY 14625.
