Passed away on November 12, 2018 at age 80.
Josie was born in Rochester on May 28, 1938. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, OH and her Master’s of Science in Education and CAS from The College at Brockport, in Brockport, NY. She went on to teach in the Rochester City School District for over 30 years. After her retirement Josie remained active by volunteering at the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House and working at the Episcopal Church Home on Mt. Hope Ave.
Josie was an accomplished pianist and church organist. She was an active member of Christ Church including serving as Church Warden. Josie was a fiercely independent woman who enjoyed traveling extensively to many different countries with friends. She loved the theater and classical music and was a generous supporter of the local arts community.
Josie is survived by her brother and sister in-law, Bob & Susan Dewey, her sister and brother-in law, Jim & Peg Whitten, her brother David Dewey, her niece, Catherine Anderson, and her nephew, Michael Whitten. Josie is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin & Dorothy Dewey.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church, 141 East Ave. on Saturday, 11 AM with a reception to follow.
