VETERANS BENEFITS
Service to our nation in the military during war or peace has been a foundation of our American democracy. For over two centuries many of those serving in the military have not been career soldiers, but instead were volunteers or draftees. These citizen soldiers have served our country well and made many sacrifices so that each of us may enjoy the freedom and liberty we enjoy today... and regrettably often take for granted.
When a veteran dies, and he or she has been HONORABLY DISCHARGED, there are certain benefits to which they are entitled:
|
VETERANS BENEFITS (subject to change): |
| MILITARY HONORS - by an Honor Guard of active duty or reserve service personnel or a local veterans honor guard. |
| An AMERICAN FLAG - to be draped on the casket and for presentation of the family |
| VETERANS GRAVE MARKER - to mark the grave of the veteran - shows details of service and war served if any. |
| BURIAL IN A NATIONAL VETERANS CEMETERY - Bath VA Cemetery is the closest one to Rochester |
If a veteran was receiving a monthly DISABILITY Check his or her survivors may be entitled to other death benefits.
